Professional development courses are listed on the Events page if you are looking to sign up for any training or direct parents / carers or colleagues. In addition, listed below are training offers available from services to build capacity within your setting to support children / young people.
FRIENDS Resilience Training
FRIENDS has been endorsed by the World Health Organisation as best practice for the prevention of anxiety and depression through improving overall resilience. We are now pleased to extend this offer from Trailblazer only to all schools within Northumberland.
The ‘Be You’ team, made up of Educational Psychologists, Mental Health Support Workers and colleagues from the Primary Mental Health Work Service, will co-deliver the training in schools with existing school staff. This means that schools will ultimately be equipped to manage the programme independently within their own settings.

The ROAR response to Mental Health in Primary Schools is a course that aims to help teachers and staff recognise and address the signs of mental health problems in children. It is a first line response aimed at equipping front line professionals with the tools to provide early intervention and support to children experiencing mental distress.

Psychological Services Training Offer to Schools
As well as providing targeted support for individuals, Educational Psychologists are able to offer ‘training’ to schools in many areas that support emotional wellbeing.
The work would be discussed and planned with the school's designated EP and be funded from the school’s SLA time. Schools that do not have an SLA with Psychological Services are able to buy in EP time for a specific purpose. In some cases, it may be that another EP delivers or joins the school EP for particular training topics.
Examples of some of the training topics delivered previously include:
- problem solving / solution finding approaches
- emotional wellbeing
- resilience and coping
- social interaction / social understanding
- attachment
- bereavement and loss
- worry and anxiety.
